ESF Football Tournament 2011, 7-8 October

Rain held off at King George V School on Friday evening and ideal conditions enabled the Secondary teams to produce some excellent football. KGV 1 ended victorious in the C Grade competition for a second year running and South Island School triumphed in a keenly contested Plate final.

Renaissance College finished worthy winners of the Senior Girls competition defeating SIS 1 in the final. ESF Education Advisor Chris Durbin presented trophies and medals to the winners and runners up.

Saturday morning was the turn of the Primary schools. Coaches barked instructions and parents urged the players on. There were crunching tackles and sudden death penalty shootouts. When the dust had settled, Quarry Bay emerged as worthy winners having fought back from a goal down.

The Primary Girls Competition was keenly contested but GSIS stamped their authority on proceedings from the first game and never looked like being defeated, despite a brave effort from Beacon Hill School in the final.

The Secondary boys B and D Grade competitions took place on Saturday afternoon. There was little to choose between the teams and a number of games were decided by penalties. It was a productive afternoon for “double winners,” WIS, who won the B Grade final against Sha Tin College.

In the D Grade competition, West Island School 1, who had entertained with a fluent style of football throughout the afternoon, deservedly beat KGV 1 in a tense final.

We would like thank WellnessPlus for sponsoring bottled water for this year’s tournament.
