La Journée du Goût at South Island School
The idea for "La Journée du Goût" at South Island School came from "La Semaine du Goût", an event which takes places every October in France. The aim of the day was to invite Hong Kong's top chefs to the school for a morning to share their expertise, knowledge and passion for food and the French culture and language with our students.
On 29 November 360 students of French from Years 8-13 and 60 Food Technology students participated in the workshops. 21 French-speakers were also involved in interpreting and assisting the chefs and a dedicated team of Media students filmed the workshops and interviews.
The students learned about the diversity of tastes and flavours available to them, the sourcing and preparation of high quality food, and some simple cooking techniques. Several students of French also had the opportunity to interview the chefs about their inspirations, passions and life stories.
There was a sense of real excitement around the school on the day and students found their interactions with chefs highly stimulating and inspiring. Everyone at the school very much hopes that this wonderful experience can be repeated next year!
