The 5th ESF Marketing Competition

The 5th annual ESF Marketing Competition, sponsored by the Youth.gov.hk of the Efficiency Unit of the Government of HKSAR, was held at Renaissance College on 10 March.  Participating schools, including Island School, King George V School, Renaissance College, Sha Tin College, South Island School, and West Island School, sent teams to compete. Prior to the day’s event, competing teams needed to do a marketing research and prepared themselves for the competition.  Tasks were assigned on the day where students had to come up with innovative ideas and strategies to promote the “Youth.gov.hk”.

The two teams from Renaissance College scored the Championship and the First Runner-up.  King George V School’s team was awarded Second Runner-up and the Best Banner award.

Mrs Patricia Lau, Deputy Head of Efficiency Unit, was impressed by the students’ performance and said that the aim of this competition was to promote the Youth.gov.hk to English-speaking youngsters.  With all the creative strategies suggested by the teams, it should not come as a surprise if some of the ideas would be applied to the website, mentioned Mrs Lau.  Mr Rhys Thomas, Business & Management Teacher at Renaissance College, said that the competition helped develop students’ confidence and teamwork skills.  The students also learned to handle the pressure of making presentations under a time limit.

The winning team received a valuable prize this year - to work with some of Hong Kong's marketing guru. Special thanks to Publicis Worldwide (Hong Kong) Limited, McCann Worldgroup (Hong Kong) and DDB Worldwide Limited. .

Big hands to Ian Goff,  Rhys Thomas and many other business teachers for organising such an amazing and inspiring event.
