Best Documentary
This category was initially envisaged as an opportunity for staff and students to explore a whole range of possibilities including filming scientific experiments, video diary as reflection, field trip videos, sports day films etc. Beacon Hill decided to interpret the idea of documentary filmmaking by making a mockumentary with an extremely sophisticated and amusing script.
The conventions, which staff may want to consider are those associated with this incredibly important generic area. These could include the use of handheld camera techniques, ‘Voice of God’ narration, talking heads, (framed appropriately with titles and captions to introduce interviewees) archive footage and the overall construction of realism that suspends disbelief.
