School Councils

Each ESF primary, secondary and private independent school has a school council in accordance with the resolutions of the Board of Governors. Within this framework, the main responsibilities include: to work with the principal to establish the strategic direction for the school; to approve a curriculum for the school that aligns with the curriculum strategy approved by the Board for the schools of the Foundation as a whole; and to approve the allocation of the school’s annual budget. School councils also participate in the recruitment process for senior appointments; monitor the implementation of arrangements for staff reflection and development; and scrutinise the school’s performance.

Each school council comprises a chairman and representatives of parents, teachers, support staff and the wider community, as well as the Chief Executive Officer’s representative.
