These are BTEC qualifications, recognised by the UK’s Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) for university admission in the UK. Students can take one of these options at Award Level (one A Level equivalent) and the second at Certificate Level (two A Level equivalents) for a three A level equivalent package. Alternatively, students can add IB subjects to their package.

For example:  A student can take the Engineering certificate and IB Standard level Maths for entry into Engineering courses.  Also, Art and Design combined with Business or Business combined with a second language have progression routes to further study.

These are BTEC qualifications, recognsed by UCAS for university admission in the UK. Students can take up to three of these courses at Award Level. Alternatively, they can take one or two and add IB subjects to their options for a broad learning experience.

For example: a student could take Digital Media, Applied Business and IB Art, which could lead to an interest in further study in advertising.  Alternatively, Performing Arts could be combined with Digital Media and an IB English or Chinese course for further study in the performing arts either in Hong Kong or abroad.

For example: Fashion Design and Business can be combined to lead to further study in Fashion Merchandising.  A portfolio of work would be part of the outcome of this course.  Sport and Business could be combined to lead to further study in Leisure and Sports Management.

Each of these courses is a full programme and the student will choose one. Many students will achieve the International Diploma which is the new Edexcel qualification and equivalent to 4.5 A levels.  However, there are options for a range of outcomes in this programme. 

Renaissance College (RCHK)

Students may opt to do a Certificate programme that is composed of five IB subjects at either Standard Level or a combination of levels around a core of CAS, components of TOK and an Extended Project.  It is expected that students will take an English and a Maths IB course. Any student wishing to take the BTEC courses will enter one of the ESF schools for this cohort.  RCHK is committed to the Applied Learning programme and will be come active in the programme in 2013.

Students may opt to do a Certificate programme that is composed of some IB subjects, including Mathematics and English A1 at Standard Level or a combination of levels around a core of CAS, components of TOK and an Extended Project.  These students will also take a module in Information and Communication Technology.
