Professor Pingyang Gao (高平阳) was born and grew up in Hangzhou China, attended Renmin University of China, obtained a Master’s degree from Peking University and earned his PhD degree at Yale University. Afterwards, he spent 12 years as a Professor at the University of Chicago. He is currently a Professor at HKU Business School and serves as the Area Head of Accounting and Law. His research has focused on public policy and securities regulation issues with a special focus on capital markets and corporate governance.
He teaches financial decision-making, corporate finance, and risk management. He has received several honours, including the IBM faculty fellowship, PCL Faculty Scholar, and Centel Foundation/Robert P. Reuss Faculty Scholar. Pingyang is a member of the Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society at Yale University, a network of scholars who exemplify service and advocacy for students who have been traditionally underrepresented in academia.
