Island School

Island School (IS) is a secondary school under the English Schools Foundation (ESF).

ESF is the largest provider of English-medium international education in Hong Kong. Our mission is to inspire creativity and nurture the global citizens and leaders of the future. We do this by creating joyful learning environments, led by a community of exceptional teachers who bring out the best in every child through a personalised approach to learning and by inspiring curious minds.

Island School opened in 1967 to provide secondary education for children of all nations who can benefit from an education through the medium of English. The school moved to its present site overlooking Central Hong Kong in 1970. The school offers a broad liberal education to 1,200 students of some 40 different nationalities.

There is a strong tradition of pastoral care and a rich array of extra-curricular activities through a long established house system where communities are forged. Students go on to study in highly regarded universities worldwide. The middle school curriculum is designed to progress into both the International Baccalaureate Diploma and the Applied Learning Pathway in the sixth form. Students can pursue a range of interests to balance their suite of IGCSEs.
