Ms Nina Gunson is the Principal of ESF Island School, having joined the English Schools Foundation in January 2025. She has more than 20 years’ experience in education and has held senior leadership positions in both the UK and Hong Kong, including three headships. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Nina was Head of Sheffield High School for Girls, part of the Girls’ Day School Trust. She has also served as a governor of schools in the UK and is currently a Board member of Summerbridge Hong Kong.
Nina has a particular interest in school improvement, leadership development, and evidence-informed practice. She holds a first-class degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, an MSc in Multimedia and E-Learning and the National Professional Qualification for Headship. She is currently studying towards a Doctorate in Education (EdD).
