Another school year is almost upon us. The summer holiday, as it always seems to do, has flown by in an instant.
As you know, we will be starting this new school year online. The Government has told us that it is not yet safe for us to have students back in our schools. While we are, of course, disappointed in this – it is a decision that we must support. Nothing matters more to us than the health, safety and wellbeing of your children.
We had hoped to start phasing students back from August 17. However, at a media conference last evening, the Education Secretary said that this was not going to be possible. While we don’t yet know the date when we will be able to re-open our schools – and we have been promised that we will get two weeks notice on when we can – what I can tell you is that we are absolutely focused on every single student and on making good on our promise to you.
We will be doing everything we can to help your child be the best that they can be.
Our schools will be doing everything to make sure that those all-important first few days and weeks of the new term are used to set your child up for a year of successful learning.
They will be making sure that new students are properly introduced to the school, their teachers and their new classmates.
And they will be going all-out to make sure that students who are making the step up from one year to the next are ready to thrive in their new classes.
This year we will also be putting added focus on the areas of equality, diversity and inclusion. When I wrote to you at the end of last term, I said that we must never be afraid to look critically at ourselves, nor should we try and ignore any voices or any instances that tell us that we have to be better.
We have spent the summer break really reflecting on who we are and what we do. We are preparing to roll out a whole raft of new initiatives and policies that, I believe, will make us even stronger as individual schools and as an organisation. I will let you know more about that in the coming weeks.
For now, though, all I want to do is to welcome you to the new school year. A very special welcome, of course, goes to our new parents. We are so delighted to have you join our ESF family.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. It is truly humbling.
