Abraham Shek is a distinguished leader serving different sectors in Hong Kong. He started his career in the shipping industry in the 70s. Since then, he has taken up senior management roles in a number of renowned organisations in shipping and property development. Abraham received a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Diploma of Education from the University of Sydney in 1969. He spent a short time teaching before moving to the shipping industry.
Since 2000, Abraham has been a member of the Legislative Council representing the real estate and construction functional constituency. He was recently appointed non-executive director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority. He is also a director of the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited. In addition, he sits on a number of corporate boards.
Abraham has been actively involved in the community and has a strong interest in education. He believes a good education is key to young people. Currently, he is a member of the Court of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a Council and Court member of the University of Hong Kong.
In recognition of his distinguished effort in community services, Abraham was made a Justice of the Peace in 1995, received a Silver Bauhinia Star in 2007 and awarded a Gold Bauhinia Star in 2013.
