ACT Approaches to Learning Research Groups

7 September, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

HK$1,200

In what is often described as the information age, teachers now have a greater responsibility to help students build a repertoire of skills and dispositions that enable them to more effectively locate, access, understand and critique ideas, as well as design, create and share their own. While the significance of skills needed for inquiry has long been acknowledged, it has often been relegated to simple checklists. Skills have not received sufficient, explicit attention in planning, teaching or assessment.

This project aims to develop teacher’s understanding through the following inquiry questions:

• Why are skills and approaches to learning so vital?
• How can we develop these through an inquiry approach?
• What strategies and techniques can we utilise to explicitly teach them?

This project will take the form of 2 ACT groups focusing on different ATLs.
– Thinking Skills (creative, critical and reflective)
– Social and self management skills (Collaboration and Student Agency)

The aim is that these two groups come together to create a fuller picture of ATLs for teachers across the Foundation. Please identify which group you would like to be a part of.

Participants are asked to commit to a year long project with at least 4 central meetings at ESF Centre.
