As you know, the HK Government has announced a suspension of all kindergarten, primary and secondary school classes. This is part of the efforts being made to contain the current coronavirus outbreak.
While classes may have been suspended on the school premises, this does not mean that teaching and learning will stop. Our schools have been working hard over the past few days and weeks to put in place robust systems that will allow your child to use technology to continue with their learning online, at home.
You will remember that we activated online learning when our classes were suspended in November due to the protests that were taking place across the city. We have taken on board a lot of feedback from both parents and students about how that online learning process worked.
Feedback included that you wanted your child to have:
• Structure to their day by working through a timetable that is as close as possible to what they would be doing were they attending classes in school
• An appropriate amount of work to get through
• Enhanced support from their teacher or teachers – including the ability to speak directly to them during the school day
Your child’s school will be in touch with you shortly to discuss how online learning is going to work over the next few weeks – and how we are going to make sure that this valuable feedback from parents and students is acted upon.
And, from Monday, teachers will be reaching out to students to begin setting them work.
I want to give you my personal assurance that every teacher in every school is committed to ensuring that your child is properly supported to progress with their learning during the time that we are delivering lessons online.
I want to thank you for your support and for entrusting us with your child’s education.
