ESF Language & Learning received over 300 submissions for the Spanish Comic Competition, which was recently launched on March 2017. Students from ESF schools, ESF after school programmes, international schools, local schools and homeschoolers all participated in the event. The submissions were jointly judged by the Consulate of Spain, Consulate of Peru, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It was a very tough decision, as stated by the judges, because the students were able to utilise Spanish humour beautifully and each artwork was creative in its own way.
An award ceremony was held on Friday, 16 June 2017 at ESF to congratulate all the finalists and award them with their certificate and prizes. A Spanish speaking parent stated that she was worried her child had lost interest in learning Spanish. She was so pleased to see her child creating Spanish comics passionately for this competition. Our judges were delighted to see that local and international students are loving and embracing the Spanish language and culture.
In the Under 16 category, Shraavasti Bhat (ESF King George V School) received the Most Creative Award, Isabella Reghenzani (ESF King George V School) received the 2nd prize and Catlin Omey (ESF Discovery College) and Bonnie Tsui (ESF Island School) tied for 1st prize.
In the Under 12 category, Alessio Boni (ESF Discovery College) received the Most Creative Award, Elaine Law (student of ESF Spanish after school programme) received the 2nd prize and Marcus Wong (Chinese International School) received the 1st prize.
Many of the fantastic comics from this competition will be on display at ESF Centre until 13 July 2017.
