Parents

As you know, Super-Typhoon Ragasa has had a major impact on Hong Kong.

Due to the fact that first the T10 and then the T8 signals have been hoisted during the entire day, we have not had the opportunity to properly assess the damage at all of our schools. What we do know is that many of them have experienced issues as a result of the storm.

It is also the case that, even with the extraordinary efforts of the emergency services here in Hong Kong throughout the day today, we do not yet fully understand the impact on the transport network. This adds in another layer of uncertainty about how we might safely get our students and staff to school tomorrow morning.

As a result, we have taken the proactive decision to suspend in-person learning at all of our schools tomorrow (Thursday, 25 September).  This is not a decision that we take lightly, but it is one that I believe gives us the best opportunity to properly clear away the large amount of debris that will undoubtedly be present and prepare our schools for the safe return of your children and our staff.  It also gives the emergency services more time to safely clear the road network.

Your school will follow up with you directly about online learning arrangements. All being well, we will be back to school as normal on Friday.

I hope that you have managed to weather this extraordinary 24 hours and that you and your loved ones are safe and well. As always, thank you for your support of ESF and your school.
