ESF students continue to excel in GCSE
ESF staff and students returned from their summer holidays to celebrate an excellent batch of GCSE and IGCSE results. 8,322 examinations were taken by about 967 students at Sha Tin College, King George V School (KGV), Island School, South Island School and West Island School. Over 4,500 (55.0%) of these were awarded A* or A, by comparison with 23.2% in the UK.
“This year’s results are the best to date for the ESF and the second consecutive year in which the percentage of A*- A grades is over 50% for all ESF schools. I congratulate both students and staff for their hard work.” said Chief Executive Officer Heather Du Quesnay. “While we are still analysing the full details, the overall picture is very positive, and everyone should be very proud of their accomplishments.”
41 students achieved eight or more passes at A*, including ten students who achieved ten A*s. They are Alvina Fok, Amelia Chao, Ivan Siu, Shirley Wang and Dominic Fung from South Island School, Adrienne Chan and Juanita Chui from Sha Tin College, Shreenidhi Subramanian from West Island School, and Natalie Au and Hubert Leung from Island School.

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is a UK based qualification and IGCSE its international equivalent. ESF students generally take a mixture of GCSE and IGCSE courses in order to successfully prepare them for the IB Diploma in Years 12 and 13.
