Dear Parent,
Election of Parent Members to the Board of Governors of ESF
I am writing to give notice that an election is to be held for Parent Members of the Board of Governors (Board) of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) during the period of Friday, 23 September to Wednesday, 12 October 2011.
There are six places to be filled including one place for the parent of a child with Special Educational Needs, as one parent member, Amy Wong, was elected to fill a casual vacancy last year and one parent member is elected by the Committee of Parents.
Any parent of a student who is in attendance at an ESF school (including the Private Independent Schools, but not the ESF International Kindergartens) is eligible to stand for election, except somebody who is an employee or the spouse of an employee of ESF. There are two categories of Parent Members of the Board :
- parent of a student of a mainstream primary or secondary school (including the Private Independent Schools), who has not been assessed as having Special Educational Needs, or of a student at Jockey Club Sarah Roe School (five places);
- parent of a student with Special Educational Needs (that is a student who has been assessed at Level 2 or above on the ESF Levels of Adjustment) (one place).
(For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that parents of students at Jockey Club Sarah Roe School may stand in either category.)
A candidate for the Board needs to have a proposer and a seconder and I attach a Nomination Form for you to complete if you wish to make a nomination. The nominated candidate should sign the Nomination Form to indicate his/her willingness to stand and return with the Nomination Form a Personal Statement, giving brief details (in no more than approximately 500 words) of his/her relevant experience and stating what he/she believes he/she can contribute to the Board.
The deadline for the submission of Nomination Forms and Personal Statements to ESF Centre is
5:00 pm on Monday, 19 September 2011. They may be submitted by post or by hand. They should be marked for the personal attention of Susanna Chiu.
Each of the parents of a child to a maximum of two is entitled to vote. Each parent may vote only once for each school attended by their children, for example, a parent with two children at KGV and two at Beacon Hill School can have one set of votes for KGV and one for Beacon Hill School.
Ballot Papers with details of the nominated candidates will be distributed by post on Friday, 23 September 2011. The Ballot Papers should be returned by post or by hand to reach ESF Centre or the ESF Ballot Box at your child’s school by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 12 October 2011. If you have any enquiries, please contact Susanna Chiu at (w) 3762 2672 or susanna.chiu@esfcentre.edu.hk.
Yours sincerely,
Heather Du Quesnay
Chief Executive Officer
